  17. Please read this README file and all the supplied documentation 
  18. BEFORE you continue the installation.

  21. 2. Installation Notes 
  22. =================================================================
  23. These drivers require DirectX 6.1 or DirectX 7.0 to support 
  24. DirectDraw & Direct3D applications.
  25.  
  26. InControl Tools 95 shortcuts are not compatible with Windows 98 
  27. and InControl Tools 98. It is important to uninstall any previous
  28. version of InControl Tools (e.g. InControl Tools 95) before 
  29. installation of InControl Tools 99. Uninstall from the Control 
  30. Panel by:
  31.     1.  Choosing "Add/Remove Programs"
  32.     2.  Select "Diamond Multimedia Product Installation & Removal"
  33.     3.  Click on the "Add/Remove" button
  34.     4.  Then follow the uninstall process.
  35.  
  36. Preparing to install the Windows 9x Drivers
  37. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  38. Before installing the Diamond ViperII Z200 Windows 9x display 
  39. drivers, switch your display driver to the "Standard VGA".
  40.     1. Open your Control Panel and select Display.  
  41.     2. Select the Settings tab and click the Change Display Type 
  42.     button.
  43.     3. Click the Change button.  
  44.     4. Select the Show All Devices radio button and scroll to the 
  45.     top of the left window and select Standard Display Types.
  46.     5. In the right window select Standard Display Adapter (VGA). 
  47.     Click OK.

  50. 3. Installation Instructions

  52. Manual Installation via .inf:
  53. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  54. Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.
  55.  
  56. Start the "Display" applet program. 
  57.  
  58. Select the "Settings" page, push the "Change Display Type" 
  59. button. Push the "Change" button in the "Adapter Type" area.
  60.  
  61. Push the "Have Disk" button and press "OK".
  62.  
  63. Specify the path to the new drivers' .inf file and press the 
  64.       <ENTER> key:
  65.       Example 1: Insert the drivers disk in the A: floppy drive,
  66.                  and enter A:\.
  67.       Example 2: Type in the name of the directory where you 
  68.                  copied the drivers, either on your local hard 
  69.                  drive or on a network shared drive.
  70.       Example 3: If you're not sure exactly where the drivers 
  71.                  are, choose the "Browse..." button and find them.
  72.  
  73. The "Select Device" dialog box will appear. Select the adapter 
  74. that corresponds to the one you installed in your machine and 
  75. click OK.
  76.  
  77. Windows will copy the display drivers to the proper 
  78. directories on your system.
  79.  
  80. Continue choosing Close until asked to restart your machine from 
  81. the "Systems Settings Change" dialog box.
  82.  
  83. After the system has restarted, you can go back into the Display
  84. applet and select alternate screen resolutions, color depths and 
  85. related features.

  88. 4. Known Issues
  89. =================================================================
  90. Known driver issues will be addressed in future updates and 
  91. made available on the Diamond website.
  92.  
  93. Some Multi-Adapter issues are under investigation.
  94.  
  95. If problems occur with high resolution 32bpp modes, lower the 
  96. refresh, resolution or color depth.
  97.  
  98. Support for WinBench2000 is not implemented in this driver 
  99. version.

  102. 5. Known Limitations 
  103. =================================================================
  104. This driver is not optimized for DirectX7. It is optimized for 
  105. DirectX 6.1, however it has been tested and runs, with limitations 
  106. noted, on operating systems with either DirectX version installed.
  107.  
  108. This driver does not support Transform & Lighting.
  109.  
  110. By design if both a CRT and a TV are attached and powered on, 
  111. both will be detected and Windows will boot to simultaneous 
  112. TV & CRT display. The TV must be powered off for Windows to 
  113. boot to CRT only.
  114.  
  115. PAL-M, PAL-N and SECAM are not supported.
  116.  
  117. Only one overlay surface is available in hardware. If a second 
  118. overlay stream is attempted, the video stream will play 
  119. through GDI.
  120.  
  121. The version of Quake III included with this CD is fully functional 
  122. only with Windows 98. Do not play on a Windows 95 system. The system 
  123. will lock at the beginning of gameplay.
  124.  
  125. ICT will not be fully functional with COMCTRL32.DLL version 4.70 and
  126. earlier.  This may impact Windows 95 platforms.  The problems 
  127. experienced will included :
  128.   1) The InControl Desktop Properties will not execute.
  129.   2) The InControl Desktop Manager will not execute.
  130.   3) The Diamond 3D page will not execute.
  131. To resolve this issue you can do one of the following:
  132.   1)  Install a later version of COMCTRL32.DLL from the Microsoft Web
  133.       Site.  It is part of a self-extracting executable (50comupd.exe)
  134.       which can be downloaded from Microsoft's webpage through the link at
  135.       http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q186/1/76.ASP 
  136.       Download the latest version, currently select the option  
  137.       "Download 50comupd.exe (x86)" 0.49 MB.
  138.   2) Install Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later.
  139.  
  140. InControl Tools (ICT)99:
  141. InControl Tools 99 shortcuts require a system reboot to take  
  142. effect when running under Windows 98.
  143. Diamond ICT99 "Internet Sites" popup requires IE3.0 or above or 
  144. Netscape Communicator 4.51 or above.
  145.  
  146. After uninstalling the Update Wizard with Windows 950a or 950b, 
  147. reboot your machine to remove Start Menu entries.
